Volunteers' trip to Felton Greenhouse and Howick Hall, August 2023

Friends of Castle Parks volunteers enjoyed some much deserved downtime with a visit to the stunning Felton Park Greenhouse. Owner Tim Maxwell welcomed the group and filled us in on the history of the extraordinary fish scale greenhouse which was built around 1830 and is set in the 1774 stove-walled garden at Felton Park.  We then headed to Howick Hall Gardens for a sociable picnic and a wander around the stunning ground and arboretum. The fabulous hydrangeas will remain a talking point for many months!

The Friends work incredibly hard all year round, supporting Northumberland County Council’s Parks Officer Kate Dixon in maintaining and enhancing our Berwick parks and running free events in them. Each year, we try to enjoy a trip out together to celebrate the work we all do.
